NBA All-Star Games: Celebrating Cities through Courtside Design
While this project was undertaken during our tenure as our company’s predecessor, our collective expertise and creative contributions significantly impacted the success of the NBA All-Star Game.
CREATIVE APPROACH
Our team presented a range of concepts annually, drawing inspiration from the distinctive characteristics of each host city. The NBA entrusted us with the task of executing the chosen concept. This involved crafting a comprehensive design system and style guide that not only captured the vibrancy of the event but also served as a blueprint for other event partners.
Design Elements
Our scope of work extended beyond the core visual identity. We meticulously designed tickets, bumpers, court layouts, and environment graphics to create a seamless and immersive experience. For instance, when the All-Star Game graced New Orleans, we embraced a wrought iron theme, intertwining curling designs throughout the visual language. In the case of New York City, we took inspiration from the city’s transit system, infusing design elements reminiscent of public transit maps with the dynamic spirit of basketball.
Impact
Our commitment to infusing each All-Star Game with a sense of place garnered widespread acclaim. The unique design approaches not only celebrated the host cities but also resonated with fans and players alike. The success of these place-centered branding efforts was evident in the event’s visual cohesion and its ability to reflect the distinct personality of each location.
Through a decade-long collaboration with the NBA, our team demonstrated a remarkable ability to translate the essence of diverse cities into visually compelling narratives. Our experience in place-centered branding positions us as a valuable partner in projects seeking to infuse identity and character into a brand based on its geographic context.
